I have always liked building models but my interest did not extend to painting them. I have neither the patience nor the skill to do them justice. This book certainly helps with the skill and even goes a ways towards helping with the patience issue. I wish I had read it when I was a kid.
This is an introduction. It explains the basic equipment ranging from brushes and spray cans to the high end stuff like air brushes. It explains the usage, best application and care for the equipment. It also explains how to get good results. It does so from the standpoint of locomotives, rolling stock, structures and people. About the only major facet left out is scenery. The example are easy to understand and easy to follow. Painting is still not my favorite modeling activity but it is much less onerous that it was. Now, all I really lack is talent but the book helped there as well.
