This is a good starter book for children from 4 to 8 with an interest in drawing vehicles. It includes diagrams (no text) showing the basic construction of several types of vehicles, and because it uses simple shapes it's easy to follow.
Using squares, circles, rectangles, ovals, triangles and lines, each object is reduced to a bare-bones framework, which is then touched up to arrive at the final drawing. It should be noted that this book only covers very simple two dimensional drawings, but practicing these will provide the groundwork for drawing objects in the right proportions.
The 28 vehicles that can be drawn include a station wagon, front and side views of a car, a camper, various types of trucks, buses and vans, a fire engine, trains, boats, a hot air balloon, an airplane, blimp and helicopter, a bike, a trike and a sled.
After grasping these concepts, young artists can go on to add as much detail as their imaginations will permit, before moving on to more advanced drawing lessons.Amanda Richards, June 20, 2008
