(More customer reviews)What Richard Allison's Warbirds Calender gives us are 12 beautiful images of paintings depictng aircraft in various atmospheric settings. Military planes ranging in time from World War I to the Vietnam War are represented. The artistic expression that is conveyed with these paintings is on a very high level. One my favorite paintings depicts a British SE-5 encountering a German Albatross just after sunrise, in the skies over France. Allison's loose, impressionistic style captures the ambience of that moment, including the dappled colors of autumn on the ground far below. In another painting of note, a Curtis SC Seahawk flies past the cruiser, Alaska during the latter days of WWII. The feeling of the dazzling sun reflecting off the open sea, almost seems to blind my eyes, it is so palpable.
If you are a detail oriented rivet counter, this might not be the calendar for you. But if you appreciate truly gorgeous painting as well as being a lover of airplanes, you will want to proudly display Richard Allison's fine calendar.
